Most people do not have a problem in believing that a dead seed planted in a watered soil could live again. It’s simply botany.
But Jesus raised from the dead? That’s controversy. Or is it?
Let’s assume for while. What if Jesus did not actually live again? What would happen to you and me? And what can we do about it?
Let’s take these three considerations for a moment.
1.Think Of Its Devastating Implications In History.
As a matter of fact, Apostle Paul identified disturbing implications if Jesus was not resurrected. Foremost, “If there is no resurrection of the dead, then not even Christ has been raised.”
If Jesus is not alive then Christianity as a whole is a dead religion, worshipping a dead shaman or idol, just like all the religions of the world.
Can you name a founder of any religion or sect in the world who remains dead until now?
Zoroaster, Buddha, Jesus, Muhammad, Joseph Smith, Charles Russel, including Felix Manalo, etc. all died and did not conquer death and decay, except one. Only one grave is empty: Jesus.’
The truth is that the resurrection of Jesus is the most unique event in history that served as the very foundation of Christianity. Without it, it is simply a faith based on myth.
2. Take The Early Witnesses As It Is.
Actually, there were early professing Christians who doubted the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Apostle Paul’s reply to them was this.
“If Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith. More than that, we are then found to be false witnesses about God, for we have testified about God that he raised Christ from the dead. But he did not raise him if in fact the dead are not raised.”
All in all, there were more than five hundred eye-witnesses to the resurrection of Jesus. Any good lawyers understand the importance of two or three witnesses in winning a case.
So if Christ is still dead, the Christian Faith and its message are meaningless that “If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” This is pointless. The apostles are liars and the believers are lunatics. If you’re a Christ-believer, that includes you.
But do you think a person or generations of people can be transformed by a lie? Will Christianity flourish without hundreds of witnesses whose lives were changed by that unique, once-and-for-all Christ-event? Will the good message endure the test of times?
3. Trust In The Risen Lord.
“And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins. Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ are lost. If only for this life we have hope in Christ, we are of all people most to be pitied.”
I could not agree more. That’s precisely the full reality. If the Jesus you know is still dead, you’re dead…hopelessly dead.
The worst tragedy in life is to put your faith on falsehood, while the greatest benefit is to trust in the truth. In this case, it’s Jesus who is “the truth and the life.“
That Jesus is alive makes a powerful difference in my life–hopefully, yours too. I was transformed by it. I’m not sure if science can provide morals or meaning for my life and leadership. But Jesus did give me hope beyond death for He conquered it.
If Christ lived again, will you live for eternity with Him?
Have hope. Trust the Risen Lord and you’ll conquer death too. That’s His promise.
